Storing your timber products
It’s very important that you think carefully about where you store your timber products once they have left our yard. Whilst they’re here we take great care to ensure the quality and integrity of all our timber products so you receive them in the very best condition...
FACT: Timber shrinks as it dries and swells again if wetted. If dried to a moisture content close to that which it will reach in service, it will not swell or shrink significantly. If your timber is intended for use indoors then leave it in at room temperature before using to allow it to adapt to it’s surroundings. Every 5% change in moisture content will result in a 1% change in material thickness.
FACT: Rot is caused by wood remaining wet and through poor maintenance. It can easily be prevented by allowing wood to dry properly and treating it with recommended stains, paints and preservatives. NEVER at any time leave untreated timber outside in wet conditions, wood is a natural product and will twist and bow.
We are unable to accept responsibility for timber that has been incorrectly stored. If you are unsure of how best to do this, please call us and we will be very happy to advise you.
